Working with Trauma

As therapists we will usually be working towards helping our clients to move into awareness. We help facilitate that by staying with the client’s process and perhaps employing empathy, cognitive interventions or interpretations.

Trauma therapy is different. The client’s system will be suffering from overload, almost too much awareness, and there is always the risk of re-traumatisation. When this happens it as if the client is re-experiencing the trauma in the room.

In this one day workshop we will be looking at how to spot re-traumatisation if it occurs in the therapy and what to do about it. We will also look at Trauma therapy itself and how it differs from other therapies. The methods used will be discussion and Case Studies. There will also be a session on Self Care because secondary trauma is another potential problem with this sort of work.      contactpamnell@aol.com
